| The Solemn Mass is the main celebration on Sundays (at 11:00a.m.) and weekday Solemnities (see Calendar). The musical setting is sung by the professional choir from a wide repertoire. The Mass is celebrated in the traditional east-facing liturgy form of the western rite. A team of dedicated lay sanctuary ministers assists the ordained Ministers. The liturgy has moved with changes in the wider Church - the modern Western Rite has replaced the English Missal, that originated at S. Alban's. The congregation includes many people who live in the Parish, as well a large number of people from the "out-parish" - people who have made S. Alban's their home. On a weekly basis people travel from all over the Dioceses of London & Southwark, as well as from Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire, Surrey etc. This lively congregation is increased by a large number of visitors - either people wanting this form of liturgy as a change, or those who are visiting London and want somewhere to worship. After the Solemn Mass, refreshments are served in S. Alban's Centre and all are welcome to join and meet friends old and new. On certain Sundays in the year, the Sung Mass and Solemn Mass are combined into one celebration combining the best of both forms of worship. These take place at 10:30 and details can be found in the Calendar. |
